Our Luscious Rich Fruit Cake yealds the most portions, generally twice as many portions as that of a sponge cake. Square cakes will always produce the most portions whilst round or heart shaped cakes produce less portions.

We describe the size of our cakes as being the size of the cake before decoration this is important as some cake makers describe the finished decorated size of the cake which always means you have less portions. Also the depth of the cake is important, cheaper cakes tend not to be as deep. For instance our Luscious Rich Fruit Cake is 2.5" deep (without marzipan or icing) whilst cheap cakes may only be 2" and in some cases even less. This means that our cake can give a 25% larger portion than cheap cakes.

Industry Standards are that a portion of Fruit Cake is generally  1"x1" portion whilst a sponge cake portion is 2"x1"portion. This is how we calculate portions.

The following information is a guide and you should always allow for a margin of error. The portions are based on a square cake. We are happy to advise on a personal basis for other shapes.
